Can you reach Koh Lanta after a late flight to Krabi?

A late flight to Krabi does not have to cost you a night, but the car ferry decides. The only road route to Koh Lanta crosses by ferry from the mainland, and the last scheduled boat is listed at 22:00. This page works back from that crossing to the landing times that usually work, the ones that rarely do, and what to do instead. The last ferry to Koh Lanta sets your deadline

The last scheduled car ferry leaves at 22:00, so everything else in your evening has to fit in front of it. Cars and vans cross from Ban Hua Hin pier (in Krabi province, not Hua Hin town) to Ban Khlong Mak on Koh Lanta Noi. A road bridge then carries you onto Koh Lanta Yai, so there is no second ferry.

The operator, Songserm Tran Service, lists boats about every 20 minutes from 06:00 to 22:00 on its website, as checked on 18 October 2026. It gives a crossing time of about 15 minutes and room for up to 45 vehicles and 120 passengers per boat. Wikivoyage lists 07:00 to 22:00. The sources agree on the 22:00 end and disagree on the start, which matters for early flights (see below).

Treat 22:00 as a scheduled time, not a promise that you will board if you reach the ramp at 21:55. Queues build in high season, and a boat can fill. Working back from the 22:00 crossing

To make the last scheduled boat with a sensible margin, you need to leave Krabi Airport by about 20:00. That means landing by about 19:30 on a domestic flight, or about 19:00 on an international one.

Some guides say landing by 20:30 or even 21:00 is enough. It can be, with a quick bag belt, empty roads and no queue at the pier. It leaves no room for a 30-minute delay, a long immigration line or rain on Highway 4.

The van time comes from a travel directory updated in October 2026, a secondary source; timetables change by season. After an evening landing, a ride arranged before you fly is the safer plan.

Koh Lanta car ferry at night and after-hours charters

There is no scheduled ferry between 22:00 and 06:00. The operator’s website does say, in Thai, that charter boats are available after service hours to help customers. That is the operator’s own statement, and it stops there.

The page gives no price, no departure times and no way to book. It does not say whether a charter carries vehicles or only passengers. If it carries people only, you would also need a vehicle waiting on the Koh Lanta Noi side. The operator’s main phone line is listed as staffed from 08:00 to 17:00, so any late plan needs settling during the day, before you fly.

Where to stay near Krabi Airport after a late landing

If you land after about 20:30, a night on the mainland is usually the calmer choice. You reach Koh Lanta the next morning, in daylight, without racing a ferry.

Near the airport or in Krabi Town

There are hotels close to the airport, and Krabi Town is about 15 km away (roughly 20 minutes, per OSRM). The airport keeps the late ride short; town has more late food. Book a room with free cancellation and confirmed late check-in. Then, if you land early enough to cross, you can still go.

Near the pier

The pier sits at the end of Route 4206, and there is far less choice of rooms around it than near the airport, so check a map before relying on it. Sleeping there only makes sense if you have a confirmed room and want the first boat. For most people the airport side is easier.

The next morning

Tell your Koh Lanta hotel you will arrive a day late, so the booking is not treated as a no-show. Early flight from Koh Lanta to Krabi Airport

The same ferry limits early departures. Even on the first boat, you are unlikely to reach the airport much before about 07:30.

Work back from the 06:00 start. From Khlong Nin (Klong Nin) to the Lanta Noi pier is about 23 km, about 40 minutes by OSRM; from Saladan it is about 10 km. Add the wait and the 15-minute crossing, then about an hour to the airport. Wikivoyage’s 07:00 start would push everything back by an hour.
